Visa

The visa can be applied for either at the bank counter arrival or from the tour operators for an additional charge, if it is not already included in the tour price. With some. If you want to stay longer it can be difficult – the normal tourist visa is only valid for 4 weeks.

In addition, numerous documents such as a notarized rental contract a notarized rental contract – or a penalty payment about which there are currently there are currently different statements. A visa can be extended at the Visa-Office, every cab driver knows where knows where it is located and it is advisable to get there as early as possible as early as possible to avoid queuing for hours.

Currency and exchange

The only official currency in Egypt is the Egyptian pound is the official currency. Unfortunately, due to inflation, it has against the US dollar and the euro. You will notice that some service providers or vendors only want to be paid in foreign currency.

This is illegal! The foreign currency is urgently needed by the state, therefore you should exchange them at an official bank counter or in an exchange office. However, the trader must of course still pay for the goods goods purchased abroad in US dollars or euros… a dilemma for which there is probably no short-term solution. Exchange on the market is also illegal and can end badly for both sides if you are caught; Never ask questions in public forums.

3

Bargaining

The Egyptians are experienced traders. They often start with exaggerated prices, sometimes even ten times the actual price. A smile and the signal that you know your way around the prices are usually enough. However, never quote a price yourself, but tell them a little about yourself, where you come from and how you like the country. When you want to leave the store, you will usually be given the actual price, which you can usually negotiate down a little (rule of thumb: a third of the first price).

However, Egypt has also become more expensive, especially when products are imported from abroad. There is often less room for negotiation here. A T-shirt for 2 euros when the purchase price and transportation already cost 3 euros. In stores with price tags, there is usually around 15-20% more margin, but rarely more. In the large malls and supermarkets fixed prices usually apply. So live and let live – the retailer must also still be able to make a small profit.

Our tip: Avoid the expensive shops in the main areas and explore the side streets.

What you’d better not do

Egyptians rarely argue, but are polite, especially towards tourists. Don’t let him lose face. Be polite and smile, even if it gets stressful and you may be in the right. Most problems can be solved over a cup of tea, and many misunderstandings have a clear cause, which is often unknown to tourists. Among Egyptians themselves, it can be very rare but can also lead to aggressive, loud shouting. It is better not to interfere not get involved. If things get really serious, you can contact the tourist police who can often be found in the streets of Hurghada and Caro.

However, you cannot rely on their success. If the problem is more serious, you should contact one of the lawyers listed on the listed on the embassy website. Do not try to save money here and take a cheaper lawyer!

Social Media

Even if you normally can’t leave it alone and maybe think you’re in the right, you should just leave it alone when you are in Egypt… What? Negative experiences, criticism of the system, the Egyptian pound, the economic situation in Egypt, etc. The Egyptian authorities closely monitor Facebook & Co. and don’t like it when the system is criticized. By the way, normal Egyptians don’t like that either – even if some things in the country are obviously not.

Egyptians love their country above all else and find criticism from outside inappropriate.

Travel bookings:

The best way to book is of course directly here via the platform with trustworthy providers. Our general tips:

  • Think carefully about which airport you want to land at. If you want to go to Marsa Alam or Port Ghalib but land in Hurghada, it can take several hours to arrive at the hotel. You can find cheap trips if you fly with Pegasus via Istanbul, the disadvantage here is that you sometimes have to wait several hours and sometimes at night at the at the airport in Istanbul for the connecting flight.
  • Cabs are available at the airport at almost any airport, the bank counter in Hurghada is also open on arrivals. However, it is best to order a cab in advance if you have not have booked a package tour. We recommend ABC-Taxi, simply book via app book.
  • Count the travel days and overnight stays exactly, especially with very late arrivals or very early departures. Very early departures can lead to surprises.
  • Breakfast after checkout? After your stay at the hotel is over, i.e. you are no longer a guest. This also applies to the pool, sauna, breakfast and dinner. But it is worth asking and especially in Egypt, many things can be arranged for a small tip. At many hotels, a late check-out is even free of charge.
  • Be careful if you are offered tours on the beach. Many are dubious and only refer you to local agencies, which in turn only refer you to the boat driver, who often carries out the tour often carries out the tour independently. If you are in a remote tourist destination, it can happen that they forget to pick you up or the cab may not show up until an hour later. In any case confirm the pick-up via Whatsapp!

Egyptian time

In Egypt, the clocks tick a little differently, especially a little differently, especially outside the tourist areas. You can expect a delay of 15-30 minutes late. There is no hurry, and even if you arrive on time on time, it doesn’t mean that you’ll start immediately. “Inshallah” is often said at appointments, which means something like “God willing” or “if nothing more important comes in between”. Often people then chat or wait for someone, drive past the restaurant once again restaurant to pick up the fried chicken so that you have enough food for the journey.

But be careful, official buses leave for example, leave extremely punctually, and the hotels are also a little more precise with the time. It’s best to ask directly: Egyptian time?

Then you will usually get a specific answer. If an Egyptian and a longer journey is imminent, he will make sure that he has arrived one day before and on the day of departure to check whether the appointment is still valid. Either by phone call or WhatsApp message.

9

Communication

Egyptians are crazy about their cell phones. Apple and Samsung are particularly popular. So if you want to popular, you are welcome to bring your old cell phones with you (but don’t forget to delete your data and remove the SIM card). For Many Egyptians use WhatsApp to communicate – from delivery services to beach boys.

So if you want to arrange another ride with a cab driver, ask for his WhatsApp number and send him a direct message with your name. Egyptians are sometimes a little shy and don’t accept incoming calls if they don’t know the number.

If you want to make calls in Egypt with an Egyptian SIM card in Egypt, you usually have the choice between O2 and Orange. You should save yourself the effort and not buy the card at the airport. There have been indications that there can be problems with cards from the airport. It’s best to ask at the nearest supermarket or go directly to the nearest Orange or O2 store – they are easy to find. Your cab driver will also be happy to get you a card if you book the next tour with him.

The internet connection is generally very good, but can depend on the depend on the time of day. In the morning, very few Egyptians use the internet for streaming, so you have the best chances at this time.

Food and drink

In Egypt, you can find a wide variety of delicious restaurants that offer a variety of delicious dishes. For example babaganoush, tahina and even camel steaks. The Egyptian salad with finely chopped cucumbers, tomatoes and iceberg lettuce is very well-known and delicious. Also the “yoghurt” in different variations, similar to tzatziki, is also very popular.

In summer, fresh, ice-cold mango juice or lime juice with mint is a special delicacy (make sure you order it with little sugar otherwise it is very sweet). A chilled hibiscus tea (also watch the sugar) is also highly recommended in summer. Ohm Ali, a kind of bread pudding with cinnamon, is a delicacy.

However, if you only have a short time to travel, you should think carefully about whether you want to take the risk of an upset stomach. Especially in summer, the cold chains as we know them cannot always be maintained. Chicken should be avoided. Some specialty restaurants such as “Starfish” serve really good and fresh fish, but other restaurants that you don’t know are best avoided. You should avoid raw fish and mussels because of the widespread hepatitis.

10
11

In 5-star hotels you can now almost always eat always eat everything – with cheap restaurants, you should at least once make sure the restaurants are full and orientate yourself on what the locals eat there.

If you want to try it out, we recommend that you take a look around the marina in Hurghada. There are numerous really good restaurants and you can watch the colorful hustle and bustle of the boats docking.

The same applies to El Gouna. Around the marina there are many good restaurants, which are a little more expensive than in Hurghada. You have a fantastic view, especially at sunset.

From Italian restaurants to Indian/Thai and Egyptian cuisine, it is a real treat.

Hospitals and doctors

Should you fall ill unexpectedly, you will find numerous hotel doctors, hospitals and pharmacies in Egypt. In pharmacies, you will usually find doctors who can help you with minor ailments. Please note, however, that hotel doctors are often very expensive. It is best to ask in advance and negotiate! For serious illnesses you should always go directly to a hospital.

The best hospitals in Hurghada are theNile Hospital, the El Gouna Hospital and the Salam Hospital, but there are also some other good hospitals. You can’t expect the same standards as in Germany but the doctors are very dedicated and you will be well looked after for the time being.

We can only advise against the private beauty treatments that have become fashionable. Dental care is now said to be quite good.

In most hospitals, normal outpatient treatments are also carried out but the prices for foreigners may differ from Egyptian prices. Here you should definitely negotiate and ask for payment in LE. We strongly recommend that you take out travel health insurance for the duration of your vacation.

Otherwise, the costs can be significantly higher than in Germany!

The best time to visit

Egypt is a popular destination all year round. The weather in Egypt is actually always nice. The best months for swimming months from April to October are best for swimming. From as early as March and until November/December you can comfortably swim and snorkel in the Red Sea with a wetsuit.

In January, February and until mid-March you can sit on the beach in Hurghada during the day, and with a bit of luck it will be warm, but it can be uncomfortable when it is windy. For tours to Luxor and Aswan, we recommend the months from mid-February to the end of April and from October to December. However, it can get quite chilly at night. In November to February, it can be very windy for a few days or even stormy.

Our tip for the winter months in Egypt: It is best to ask in advance whether the hotel pool is heated and look for a place where you can do something in the evening without sitting outside.

For a visit to Cairo, we also recommend also spring or October. In summer it is too hot and oppressive, while in winter it can be cold, wet, and uncomfortable.

12
13

Water sports

You can enjoy water sports with a wetsuit all year round. The best conditions usually prevail from mid-March to the end of October, when the water is relatively warm. From June to October there is usually a pleasant, constant wind of 20 to 35 knots. The wind dies down a little in the afternoon from 2 pm. The sea becomes a real bathtub 😊

The region around Hurghada, El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh and SomaBay, and Safaga, but also El Quseir and Marsa Alam, Port Ghalib is known for various water sports. The Red Sea is particularly famous for its exciting diving areas and the variety of species, especially of large fish in particular. However, the reefs on the coasts are are somewhat impaired due to the many tourists, especially in Hurghada. It is boat trips to the reefs in the open sea are therefore recommended.

In other destinations such as Somabay you can dolphins and turtles from the jetty and see colorful schools of fish and shimmering blue shoals of fish and shimmering blue rays. For hygienic reasons, it is best to bring snorkeling equipment and, if possible, diving equipment from home or buy it in one of the many local shops. (The purchase of diving equipment is difficult)

Sailing

In Makadi and SomaBay you can learn to sail on catamarans or rent boats. Especially recommended are SomaBay (at the Sheraton or Robinson, where small regattas are sometimes held). Advanced sailing courses with private instructors or simply relaxed sailing are offered by both hotels. Almost the bay is available for sailing and occasionally catamaran trips are also organized to small trips to a small island for snorkeling – an unforgettable experience.

Our tip: A sunset tour by catamaran!

14

Kiting

El Gouna and Somabay in particular (but also Hurghada) are known for their excellent kiting conditions. In El Gouna there is kilometers-long standing area and here one kite school follows the schools, while Somabay also offers boat trips to a nearby island.

Both spots are quite busy in summer and sometimes fully booked (it’s best to call in advance). If you want to hire equipment, you should therefore book early. However, Hurghada and the still relatively unknown Safaga offer some exciting spots where you can have the sea all to yourself at times. If you want to kitesurf and don’t want to fly too far is definitely in the right place in Egypt. Especially recommended are the kite safaris offered everywhere. Not quite cheap but a dream to start the first kite session at 6.00 in the morning before breakfast when the rest are still in bed. The nights under a starry sky on a balmy summer night are unforgettable.

Windsurfing

Hurghada is actually less well-known for windsurfing, but you can rent good equipment and book beginner courses in Somabay, Hurghada and Safaga.

Hire good equipment and book beginner courses. Especially in summer a beautiful spot with different wind strengths.

15

Horse riding

Many hotels now offer horse riding excursions on horseback. The horses are now usually in good condition and are treated well. There are stables in Hurghada that are also intensively involved in animal welfare and take in abused or neglected animals and rehabilitate them. Support these providers and book a fascinating tour.

Our special recommendation: Plan a desert trip with long gallops or a beach ride “bathing with horses”.

16

Snorkeling

The underwater world from Hurghada to Marsa-Alam is famous worldwide for its diversity of species and the countless corals and large fish. In many hotels, you can snorkel from the beach or jetty. There are many colorful schools of fish, dolphins, turtles, rays and large mussels to admire. Sharks are (unfortunately) scarce and usually only seen on longer boat trips.

Our tip: Take a boat trip which you can book directly on our website or at the hotel.

On a dolphin tour, you can almost always see groups of dolphins and swim or swim with them. (Please look out for reputable providers who do not hunt the dolphins)

However, make sure you find out exactly where you should go, as the diving centers know the best places. The often Paradise Island and Orange Bay are often very touristy, loud, and a matter of taste.

Various tours are also offered in Cairo, especially to the pyramids, also with camels. Bear in mind however, that the animals often do not look good. In Luxor, carriage tours are offered on every corner. The coachmen even drive through the narrow alleyways of the souk and impress with their skills. Book without hesitation, but negotiate the often inflated price. It is best to save the tip and ask the coachman to stop at a dealer for horse feed instead. For just a few pounds you can get fantastic green fodder for your horse – better than any tip!

17
18

Nile cruise

A really great cultural experience that you should not miss. Our recommendation: Book a 5-star ship instead, if you really want to feel at home. As you will be spending most of the day on the ship, we recommend an all-inclusive option. Nothing is than sitting on deck and relaxing with a cup of coffee and a pastry or a cold beer.

Book recommendation: Travel Diary from Egypt by Gustave Flaubert from 1849 or Death on the Nile by Agahta Christie.

You have a free choice of excursion packages. At most of the landing stages, you will find local providers who will offer you transportation and a speaking guide. An individual tour is often cheaper than the package. But the same applies here: negotiate! Always ask for the name of the name of the ship and look for reviews on the Internet.

19
20

Accommodation

For short vacations in Egypt it is hardly worth it, booking hotels or apartments individually. There are many reasonably priced hotels, from 3-star to 5-star luxury hotels. However, if you want to stay longer in Egypt for longer or even want to spend the winter there, apartments in apartments in El Gouna, Somabay or Sahl Hasheesh, depending on you ralso in Hurghada, depending on your personal taste. Define exactly what requirements you have in terms of facilities and infrastructure. Do not forget that in most cases you will have no or only limited access to the beach and have to do your own shopping and cooking. So book directly with the hotels without service providers such as booking.com is hardly worthwhile, the providers of package tours and large tour operators have a clear advantage here and have negotiated perfect prices. There may be exceptions in Luxor and with the often smaller providers of desert tours or camel trekking.

Boat trips

Are part of Egypt and especially Hurghada are actually always part of it. Regardless of whether you snorkel or not, a snorkeling tour to the fantastic diving spots in the Red Sea should not be missed. Simply book a tour here with a professional provider. The often advertised places Paradise Island and Orange Bay are very touristy, noisy and a matter of taste. Dolphin tours and smaller snorkeling tours are more for relaxing. Our tip: If possible, avoid the Egyptian weekend on Friday and Saturday and the Egyptian public holidays, otherwise it can sometimes be a little difficult to relax.

For hygienic reasons, you should always bring your own equipment for snorkeling, especially snorkels. equipment, especially snorkel and goggles.

A city tour through Hurghada/El Gouna

Another experience is certainly a city tour through Hurghada for shopping or, if you have time, a visit to El Gouna at the marina.

You should definitely not miss the new marina in Hurghada with small stores, classy restaurants and impressive yachts. The fish market and the mosque in Hurghada are also always worth a visit. You can get to El Gouna either by cab or by public bus, which runs from Dahar to El Gouna approximately every 20 minutes.

In El Gouna you can take a tuktuk for a few pounds through the whole city. You can also arrange a city tour for little money.

In El Gouna, take a look in particular at the kite stations, because there is nothing as picturesque as the turquoise water with the colorful kites as a contrast. At the stations you can sit comfortably in the café and admire the daredevil jumps of the professionals. Or take a boat tour through the picturesque lagoons or a catamaran trip to catamaran trip for snorkeling. You can then spend the evening with the bartender at the marina or one of the fantastic restaurants.

Conveyance

Traveling within Hurghada offers a variety of transportation options. From orange cabs to private transfers private transfers, there are various options available to you. However, it is regrettable that we can no longer recommend the yellow cabs. Although they are slightly cheaper than the other options, but only after stressful price negotiations with the drivers. In Egypt it is actually meter in Egypt, but in view of the rise in fuel prices and the cost of prices and the cost of spare parts, it is often not worth it. Therefore fixed prices are usually agreed.

It is always advisable to write down and show the agreed price including the currency and to show it. Otherwise it can happen that the driver suddenly demands 30 euros instead of the negotiated 30 LE instead of the negotiated 30 LE or 50 LE instead of 15 LE. You should also always first, unload any luggage and only then pay. Do not not allow the driver to stop beforehand, go shopping or drop something off.

However, on further journeys, the driver may need to refuel before the journey begins. If problems occur, be sure to write down the taxi number of the cab and preferably also the name of the driver and report the incident to the tourist police.

Otherwise, you can simply leave the agreed amount on the seat, get out and walk away, threatening to go to the police if necessary. Most drivers then give up. Under no circumstances a discussion.

Nevertheless, you should bear in mind that Egyptians cannot live well on the official fares. They find it difficult to make a real cost calculation like in Europe. Often the vehicle is also often used in two shifts within the family. If you are satisfied, you are welcome to give a generous tip.

Alternatively, you can use Uber (unfortunately there have been irregularities) and mydriver, or my personal favorite, ABC-Taxi. There are also numerous private providers, but they probably don’t have the necessary licenses and insurance.

If you are not staying at the typical tourist hotspots such as the marina or the airport, it is always advisable to the exact location via WhatsApp and allow an extra 15 minutes for the journey. The same applies to more remote locations such as Somabay or Safaga. But then it starts and you get real insider tips for free!

Before you rent your own car, you should also consider this carefully. Many car rental companies limit – partly rightly so – limit the accessible area to the region around Hurghada. Often Marsa Alam, Luxor and Cairo are often excluded. Bear in mind that especially outside Hurghada, many roads are only signposted in Arabic and are not in good condition.

The driving style of the Egyptians – for example, simply switching off the lights at night and similar jokes – takes some getting used to. Cab fares in Egypt are so cheap that it is more worthwhile organizing a private transfer for the desired time. organize a private transfer for the desired time. When traveling don’t forget your passport with a valid visa when traveling overland!

Safety in Egypt

Egypt is a relatively safe country, especially if you concentrate on the tourist towns on the Red Sea. Attacks on tourists are a thing of the past, in Cairo it can be different Cairo may be different, but so far there is nothing special from there generally valid precautionary measures. In general, you can move around freely in Egypt move freely in Egypt, whether you are a man or a woman, and will receive a friendly welcome everywhere, as long as you follow the usual rules. The greatest dangers lurk in the often traffic, especially on intercity buses, where dangerous accidents can occasionally occur.

There have been occasional shark attacks in the past, but these are absolute exceptions. It is much more likely to contract hepatitis, get sunstroke or have a diving accident.

Dengue fever occurs from time to time, but can be avoided by wearing longer clothing in the evening and avoiding areas with mosquitoes. Overall, Egypt is a relatively safe country to travel to and in Hurghada it is even safe to go out at night and enjoy the pleasant evenings.

Buying real estate in Egypt

To be honest, you should rather do without! There is no legal certainty. Many tourists who see the Red Sea will be tempted to buy a vacation home. This is a personal decision that should be carefully thought through.

However, there are a few things to consider when buying a property. Always make sure whether you are buying a share of land and whether the property has a so-called green contract. Only then can actually own the property. Many properties do not have such a green contract, as this is not mandatory in Egypt is not a mandatory regulation in Egypt, unlike in Germany. It is subsequently very difficult and expensive for foreigners to apply for and obtain such a document.

You should also check whether the green contract applies to the entire building or just the apartment. Many complexes only transfer the title only when the entire complex has been completed, which is often only noted in the contract with the word “may” and therefore does not obligation. Some complexes do not even own the property themselves ownership, but have merely received it from the government for development.

An extremely opaque situation. Also check exactly what belongs to the apartment. For example, if the roof is not included, it may suddenly be is decided to build another roof.

If there is no Green Contract and possibly even several previous owners, things become even more complicated, as the property can theoretically be sold to several buyers at the same time.

It is advisable to always consult a lawyer and not to pay any reservation fees or similar in advance without real consideration.

If necessary, if the ownership situation is not 100% clear, you should refrain from buying. Also try as early as possible contact the owner directly as early as possible and ask to see their identification. You should never sign or pay anything without a lawyer!

Please also note that there may be times times when you may be able to sell your property but only receive the amount in Egyptian pounds. Sometimes it can be almost impossible to  exchange this money into euros or US dollars – this means that you can no longer get the money out of the country and with an average inflation rate of 15-20% or currently even 33%, you will have nothing left of your money after just a few years.

5

Construction defects

The quality of the buildings cannot be compared with European standards and many buildings have settlement cracks after just a few cracks after just a few years. Single glazing becomes a problem in the summer electricity prices. You should expect burst water pipes every 2-3 years, etc.

Home furnishings to German standards are relatively expensive. It is therefore advisable to calculate carefully in advance! Developments are a big problem in Egypt. They are usually sold according to a snowball system. This means that the money apartment is used to build the apartment of the customer who bought before you.

If the sale stalls, the construction of your apartment also stalls. Very few developers construct the buildings in the agreed time. If not years later and numerous construction ruins show that some have completely run out of money.

There are a few more points to consider:

  • Service charges, is there a statute or similar where the amount of service charges is defined? Who settles the bill? In times the service charges are always increased and you have no right to inspect them.
  • Does the property have electricity, water, gas connection, air conditioning?
  • What exactly belongs to the property? e.g. parking lot, garden, roof, communal areas?
  • Information on living space is almost always far too high. Corridors, terraces, common rooms are always added in full.
  • Is a commission payable if the property is resold?
  • Very important, is the promised beach access to the beach or use of the swimming pool contractually guaranteed?

The most beautiful beaches

Egypt has fantastic beaches, especially in SomaBay, El Gouna and Sahl Hasheesh. Here you will find crystal clear water and numerous opportunities for water sports activities. Although Egypt cannot compete with the miles of white sandy beaches of the Caribbean, but the water is usually the water is usually crystal clear. The best beaches usually belong to hotels that charge an entrance fee of €10-20 if you are not a hotel guest.

The same applies to the well-equipped beach clubs in Hurghada, El Gouna and Somabay. When choosing a hotel, it is therefore advisable to also consider the beach location when choosing a hotel. The public beaches are usually dirty and are mainly used by Egyptian families. For those who attach particular importance to direct access to the beach, we particularly recommend all of Somabay as well as in El Gouna the Mövenpick Hotel and Sheraton Hotel. Also in Hurghada, but the beaches there are not quite as beautiful.

Souvenirs and shopping opportunities

Especially in Hurghada, El Gouna and Cairo you will find a large selection of souvenirs. Various figures made of marble, brass, lamps, papyrus and, of course, T-shirts with different “brands” are offered at often inflated prices. Although almost every trader claims that the products are handmade by Egyptian women, most are actually made in factories in Cairo. Some even come from Asia.

If you want to bring back something truly original Egyptian basterma, a heavily smoked camel or beef ham or Egyptian wine, or visit the authentic markets in Hurghada, such as the Hurghada, such as the annual Easter or Christmas market at the Blue Moon Animal Center.

Here, home-made products are actually sold. If you want to buy Egyptian spices, it is advisable to visit larger supermarkets, as the quality is guaranteed here.

The goods offered at public markets are often old, stand in the sun or are in the sun or are exposed to exhaust fumes all day. In fact you are more likely to find really good quality in Europe.

Both in Hurghada and in Cairo there are now modern shopping malls that are in no way inferior to ours.

The Senzo Mall – on the road to Safaga offers branded products from Adidas, Billabong, eyewear stores and a large supermarket where you can buy almost anything. There is also Metro, Carrefour and the most popular tourists and foreign residents Bestway with lots of European products and good European products and good chocolate.

In the center of Hurghada there is the Sheraton Road with countless souvenir stores and restaurants, the Marina with a very a very modern promenade and Dahar with (relatively) original small shops. Oriental spices, scented oils, (fake) branded T-shirts and scarves etc. can be found almost everywhere.

In El Gouna you can also find all of this, but at slightly higher prices, but the shopping is a little more relaxed there.

What else can you buy?

Environment and waste

There is a significant waste problem in Egypt, but the Egyptian government is taking measures to solve it. There are recycling plants and waste containers in the city centers, which are emptied regularly.

The beaches are also constantly being cleaned of flotsam and jetsam, often by diving stations on their own initiative. The issue of reusable packaging is also importance. In the tourist areas and especially in the hotels, you will hardlyy have any problems with garbage, as the beaches mostly belong to the hotels and they maintain them. However, you will still occasionally see people in Egypt who simply throw garbage out of the window. This is a traditional habit and is not seen as negative. The education programs will take some time to bring about widespread change.

Also, you should not forget that many Egyptians live in poverty and simply have other problems than waste disposal…

Online shops

Yes, there are also online stores in Egypt. Some of them even offer excellent quality. Our favorite stores are gourmetegypt.com, sushiclub.de, drinkies.com and amazon.eg. In addition most supermarkets also offer delivery services, and some of them even have online stores where you can have the goods you order delivered to your door or at least delivered to your door or at least to the hotel reception. So even sushi on the beach is no problem. A simple Google search will show you that there is much more can be purchased online, from clothing and furniture to alcohol.

Packing list

Here is a list of things to think about should think about in addition to the usual clothing:

  • Sunscreen: It is recommended to use at least SPF 50 and it is best to apply it in the morning at breakfast.
  • Sunglasses (preferably with a strap, if you are planning water sports or boat trips).
  • Bath towels – unless your hotel provides them. Synthetic fiber towels are recommended.
  • Chargers (difficult to find in Hurghada).
  • A second cell phone, if available, to use an Egyptian SIM card.
  • Beach bag and small waterproof bag for cell phone, money, etc.
  • Alcoholic drinks – the Water sports stations are happy to receive souvenirs for the beach party!
  • Disinfectant – not only because of Corona.
  • Your own snorkeling equipment included Anti-fog spray and water shoes.
  • Please be careful with medication and ask the embassy, ADAC or doctor in advance which medicines can be medications can be imported and which forms and confirmations are required.
